Is your diet rich or poor—-in nutrients, I mean!  Amidst the plethora of information available now on food, nutrition, cooking, and diets, this is a question we must ask ourselves.   Are you eating the best nutrient rich foods?  Are you eating them in the right amounts?  Are they giving your body what it needs to function at its highest energy level every day—at home, work or in the competitive world of athletics?  What you eat matters–and matters a lot.
If you are healthy right now, eat a variety of whole, unprocessed foods, maintain a reasonable weight, feel great and have energy to enjoy and fully live your life—you are rich.  Your first wealth is health.  Without it you are indeed poor and no amount of money or happiness will bring you back to optimal health.
Balance is key….and yes, moderation in all things.  Seems boring, but scientific studies report it’s true!  Taking diets, nutrient information and extreme food trends too far creates a rollercoaster of excesses, deficiencies and imbalances that cause more metabolic harm to our bodies and health than any good they claim to have.   Remember this when the next Paleo or Wheat Belly Diet comes around.   Cutting out fats and cholesterol 20 years ago was not the answer to reducing heart disease or obesity—we’ve learned.  Are we too quick to jump for an instant fix to our poor health and nutrition issues for our own good?  Could it be that our obsession with the latest and greatest nutrition trend, diet fix, miracle weight loss, or magic food is actually distracting us from the proven keys to optimal health that have long since stood the test of time and scientific scrutiny?
How do you approach your daily nutrition?  Is simple better when it comes to food and health?  What works for you to get you to where you want to be–healthier and happier?
